Helping Students Navigate Extracurriculars and Academics Successfully
Balancing academics with extracurricular activities can be challenging and even overwhelming for many students. At Hill-Murray, we encourage students to be well-rounded individuals who actively engage in our community. Hill-Murray has so many wonderful activities, clubs and sports to get involved in and meet friends to make this community truly their own. With that involvement, however, comes the important task of managing time and priorities.
While it’s natural for parents to want to step in when their teen feels stressed, it’s through navigating these challenges and understanding that it is very normal to feel stress around challenging times, that students develop lifelong skills. Communication, time management, prioritization, grit, and the ability to find joy and balance are all essential tools for future success and aspects of our Portrait of a Graduate.
By supporting, not solving, parents can empower their teens to become confident, independent, and capable young adults.

Home Stretch Supports
As the end of the school year quickly approaches, we want to take a moment to remind you of ways to support your student(s) with their work completion, time management, etc. One great way is to designate time looking at the weekly summary for classes, which is sent via email on Friday afternoons from Google Classroom.
Parents/Guardians were invited to Google Classrooms to receive this weekly email by your students’ teachers at the beginning of the semester. This invite was sent to emails that are in Infinite Campus. You need to accept this invite to gain access. If you are not receiving these emails, you can reach out to any of your student’s teachers to be re-invited.
If questions arise as you and your student review the weekly summary, reaching out to the teacher is the best next step as they can provide answers to questions, ideas on prioritization, and any clarification that may be needed. We encourage your child to be the one reaching out to teachers and know that working together on this can be a great step toward self-advocacy.
We hope the final weeks of the school year go well and are here to support as needed! Please do not hesitate to reach out to teachers and counselors with any questions/concerns.

PSAT Testing for Juniors in the Fall of 2025
Hill-Murray will be offering the computer based PSAT/NMSQT to junior students next school year on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 8:00 a.m. This day is planned to be a late start, but students taking this test will need to arrive at school at 7:30 am on this day.
This PSAT test is a predictor of how a student will do on the SAT and is the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Competition. This is not a college entrance exam. Over 1.6 million high school students take the PSAT exam each year, and less than 1% advance in this competition.
If you intend for your student to take the PSAT, please email Amy Cosgrove by June 6, 2025 so exams can be ordered. If we do not hear from you, we will assume your student will not take the PSAT. In addition, you must notify us at the time you commit to taking the PSAT test if your child has an Academic Achievement Plan and will be requesting testing accommodations. Counselors will submit all testing accommodation requests, and the College Board will determine accommodation eligibility and approval. Please inform us of any requests in your response to this email.
If you have any questions about the PSAT, please call or email your student’s counselor.
